“Five” by Dave Bessey
What do Special Operations Teams, Basketball Teams and the 5 ascension grace gifts given in Ephesian 4:11-16 have common? Other than the obvious team mindset, the number “5” has great significance when it comes collaboration, synergy and how a team functions. Every time we deployed as a SOWT (Special Operations Weather Team) we had 5 members, 1 Staff Weather Officer or SWO and 4 operators. The SWO did the heavy lifting, as in briefing the command staff (Point Guard ), but the “grunt work” of daily operations in the tactical environment needed everyone working together. This is true in Special operations and it also is in basketball-the majority of the time, since only five can be in the court for each team in basketball too. Each team member is critical to the success in both SOF or in Basketball environment. Everyone has their role. When you add the Coach and your bench it parallels, because it is not unheard of to be back filled with those who can augment to synergize and increase effectiveness.
Assistant Coaches, trainers etc. The key here is that the “Number 1” of that team is not the most important member of the team. Everyone is important, though there is a chain of command or leadership.
This is true of the Doma Five Fold or Grace gifts given to the Apostle Paul by our Senior Coach or Team Chief Christ Jesus the King of kings. Everyone one on that team is essential to function on mission accomplishment. But is unique to all in this comparison is the number five in a spiritual sense, why not 4,6,7 etc. I believe the key is in the Hebrew meaning the number “five”. Key word for “grace and power!”:
Five
Chamesh [f.], chameeshah [m.] Power, strength, alertness (wake-up!), Torah, grace, service, gospel, fruitfulness, going forth, fast movement, anointed, prayers, and protection. The holy anointing oil had five ingredients: four spices mixed with olive oil. (Ex. 30:23-25.) The holy incense also had five ingredients: four spices mixed with salt. (Ex. 30:34-35) We are empowered by the Word (Torah) and the Spirit. All is given by God’s mercy and grace. There are five Books of Torah (Moses/Law), five-fold ministry, David’s 5 smooth stones defeat Goliath, fruit from trees is fit to eat in the fifth year.
Fifth Hebrew letter: Hey Numerical value of five. Pictographic meaning breath, air, spirit, femininity, and behold (to make known). As a prefix, it is the definite article “the.”
Five loaves fed five thousand, leaving twelve baskets leftover. (Mt. 14:16-21, a story in all four gospels)
On day five of creation, the birds and fish were created. They move fast and carry seed throughout the whole earth in their migrations. Like them, we are anointed and filled with the Spirit to carry God’s Seed, the Gospel throughout the earth.
There are five divisions to the Psalms.
Zelophehad had FIVE daughters and no sons. The daughters brought a case before Moses asking to receive an inheritance as sons. YHWH tells Moses that the women are right and they get an inheritance. (Num. 27:7)
Fifth Feast: Rosh Hashanah/ Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets) Lev. 23
Fifth Spirit of God: Gvurah (Power) Is. 11:2
Fifth Church of Revelation: Sardis (Meaning red ones, prince of joy, escaping ones, or those who come out)
Negative side: Feet that run swiftly to evil, walking toward darkness, trampling the holy with one’s feet, being ruled by the power of the nephesh/flesh instead of the power of the Holy Spirit. (Pr. 6:16-19)
Hai
Five is indicative of being full of Grace or filled with Spirit, prepared, and empowered to go forth on whatever mission YHWH has given one to do. Five books of Moses completes YHWH’s instructions to His people. His Torah is the Seedcarried throughout the earth by the spiritual birds and fish. The five books of Torah are the five loaves that feed thousands with plenty leftover for those that come later. Women have just as much inheritance in the Torah and spreading its message as men, which is pictured in Zelophehad’s daughters.
Five is associated grace through prayers and being anointed, as both the incense and the anointing oil had five ingredients. This indicates that anointment and prayer are POWERFUL. Both define and declare YHWH’s authority, gifts, callings, favor, direction, purpose, and will. They release a sweet fragrance. Both can be a hedge of protection like the clouds, the seal, and the “hiddenness” of Yom Teruah. Five also indicates maturity and unity. Notice how perfectly synchronized the movements of flocks of birds and schools of fish are in the mayim (waters) and shamayim (heavens). Though they are many, they flow as one fluid Body. This is the Spirit of Power.
Last but not least:
There are 5 ascension gifts or Doma gifts given by Christ as a team to perfect the saints.
Reference:
The Five-fold ministry gifts are the God given cures for everything that afflicts mankind!
ESV Ephesians 4:11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,
12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
Look at a couple key words:
Equip to outfit, load, provide what’s necessary! Ti bring correction through alignment.
Build construction usually a fortified and protected place.
The Five-fold “Doma” gifts are given by Christ to build His House, God’s Church and Spiritual Family!
We must understand that a spiritual gift is not a title, or position, it is an anointing, and a capacity to serve God.
Every building in modern industrialized countries must follow and meet building codes to ensure their safety.
Anyone can’t just build a building for public use without following strict building codes.
It’s the same in The Kingdom of God!
ESV 1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.
11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
The apostolic (doma) builds houses or starts new congregations, ministries and fellowships (foundation is always Christ), and the prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers equip or furnish the house. They lead the charge advancing the Kingdom.
Doma also means “home, or house builder” where the word! domicile comes from
Titus 1:5 I left you in Crete to do what still needed to be done- appointing spiritual leaders in every city as I directed you.
Paul left Titus in Crete to finish furnishing the houses of worship Paul had started in that region.
Again, elders, deacons, apostles, prophets, evangelists, teachers etc. are not titles people seek in the church for notoriety or power. They are supernatural, they are anointings God gives for work and service.
Far too long people have the idea that becoming a elder or deacon is a position they earn rather than an anointing to serve.
Doma Gifts with the anointing from Christ directly, build the House of God!
Doma Gifts oversee The House of God, the building, equipping, organizing, training and ordaining!
God uses the Doma Gifts to impart the “charisma” gift upon believers who seek to help build The Kingdom of God.
The purest evidence a person is a Doma Gift is not so much the manifestation of the supernatural, but rather their willingness and ability to teach, train and build up The Body of Christ and release them.
They will have the heart of Jesus and have a strong desire for unity within The Body—they will be Family oriented because the church is The Body of Christ and God’s family.
We need to be a part of God’s supernatural family and the doma gifts were given for that purpose!
So let us high five and hit the Court Mighty Warriors.
