Called does not mean we are some kind of God or we are higher than everyone else. We are called to love each other. But are to demonstrate that love through our uniqueness, in our specialized calling.
This words “called” and Calling have many meanings in denotation and connotations, but for my purpose I will talk about this specific set of verses from Romans. Colossians and Ephesians. Many make Romans 8:38 as the worlds’ catch all phase “everything will turn out okay for you as believers”. It actually means so much more than that. We are called to function in hard times to be a light in darkness. We are not then shadow people. We show faith in the storm. We shine bright from within as Christ shines from the Holiest of Holies in us. That even when facing death we will continue to bring the gospel in love as Christ would have us obey in love. His grace saves us and empowers us to overcome.
Romans 8:28-30 TPT
“So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose. For he knew all about us before we were born and he destined us from the beginning to share the likeness of his Son. This means the Son is the oldest among a vast family of brothers and sisters who will become just like him. Having determined our destiny ahead of time, he called us to himself and transferred his perfect righteousness to everyone he called. And those who possess his perfect righteousness he co-glorified with his Son!”
He did did not call us for ourselves in pride or someone else’s agenda to be their slaves. We are called to serve Him as He gives us His perfect righteousness, though we are not perfected or mature yet. We will be glorified with Him. Yet we act like losers and not winners. Our mindset is as if we are not set free. We have be changed where even our name is not identified by our sin or past. His name is engraved on our forehead and our heart. In deed we are new creations with His DNA and new name.
“My name is Paul and I have been chosen by Jesus Christ to be his apostle, by the calling and destined purpose of God. My colleague, Timothy, and I send this letter to all the holy believers who have been united to Jesus as beloved followers of the Messiah. May God, our true Father, release upon your lives the riches of his kind favor and heavenly peace through the Lord Jesus, the Anointed One.”
Colossians 1:1-2 TPT
When I finally found out my calling if was in a prophetic dream through Colossians 1:1-2. The Lord Jesus spoke to me in a dream as I fell on my face before Him. As I looked at His sandals, prostrate on my face, He said Colossians 1:1 in a whisper. I could not hear and said ,”What Lord?” He repeated louder “Colossians 1:1.” I woke up and didn’t remember. The morning it is like it just happened, I remembered andread Colossians 1:1.
“My name is Paul, and I have been chosen or called to be His apostle (sent admiral/general), …”
I asked the Lord what that had to do with me. He said, “put your name there in the place of Paul. “My name is David, I have been called and I have been sent to Negros Occidental, Bacolod City to be an apostle…”
I said “what is that Lord? Are you sure Lord? Me?” “What do you want me to do.”He said, “read the read the entire boon of Colossians and know me!”
Well here I am still learning what that means. I rarely share this part of my testimony. By the way, He added the Book of Ephesians too. It as to be my field manual.
What about you and your calling. Are you in called out, “Kaleo?” It’s time to walk in your calling Ekklesia! Everyone is called out to do what they do best by His grace!
Reference:
“Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to live in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called: with all humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; one body and one Spirit (just as also you were called with one hope of your calling), one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. Now to each one of us was given this grace, according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “Ascending on high he led captivity captive; he gave gifts to men.” Now “he ascended,” what is it, except that he also descended to the lower regions of the earth? The one who descended himself is also the one who ascended above all the heavens, in order that he might fill all things. And he himself gave some as apostles and some as prophets and some as evangelists and some as pastors and teachers for the equipping of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all reach the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to a measure of the maturity of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be infants, tossed about by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of people, by craftiness with reference to the scheming of deceit. But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow into him with reference to all things, who is the head, Christ, from whom the whole body, joined together and held together by every supporting ligament, according to the working by measure of each single part, the growth of the body makes for the building up of itself in love. This therefore I say and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the Gentiles walk: in the futility of their mind, being darkened in understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart, who, becoming callous, gave themselves over to licentiousness, for the pursuit of all uncleanness in greediness. But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard about him, and you were taught by him (just as truth is in Jesus), that you take off, according to your former way of life, the old man, who is being destroyed according to deceitful desires, be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man (in accordance with God), who is created in righteousness and holiness from the truth. Therefore, putting aside the lie, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, because we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun set on your anger, nor give place to the devil. The one who steals must steal no longer, but instead must labor, working with his own hands what is good, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need. No rotten word must proceed from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear, and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, and rage, and wrath, and clamor, and abusive speech, must be removed from you, together with all wickedness. Become kind toward one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as also God in Christ has forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:1-32 LEB
