“Humble Yourselves and draw near to God…”
1 Pedro 4:7-10
Illonggo Dialect Philippines
James 4:6-10 AMP
“But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “God is opposed to the proud and haughty, but [continually] gives [the gift of] grace to the humble [who turn away from self-righteousness].” [Prov 3:34] So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you. Come close to God [with a contrite heart] and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; and purify your [unfaithful] hearts, you double-minded [people]. Be miserable and grieve and weep [over your sin]. Let your [foolish] laughter be turned to mourning and your [reckless] joy to gloom. Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose].”
As a team we want to be victorious and win. Sports Team, Business Team m, even Church Ministry team l, it does not matter. Our goal to win the game or to achieve success in life etc. Yet some of the most skillful people on the basketball court are not able to win the championship ring or trophy. Even in the business world or other areas of life like ministry you may be the smartest and most skilled, but still fail and lose.
What is the difference?
It is something called humility. Are we teachable? Are we considering others before ourselves? Do we help others succeed?
Even more important than these things, do we put God 1st? Do we draw close to God and seek Him to learn from Him and do His will as shown in His word? He is the King we believe in and thus we are His children. Are we obedient children? When we use the word “child” or “children” we think of babies or small children. But here I speak of off-spring who are mature and like their Father in character. We need to come to our knees and repent from the selfish, childish mindsets as team members. Let selflessness prevail. Your success will come in due time as you humble yourself to serve God and others. Let love prevail, draw close to God and serve! Coach Dave
